It installs into the front timing chain cover over each cam sprocket. A sticking or faulty oil control valve may set a fault code and require replacement. The AVCS (Active Valve Control System) is used by Subaru to vary the camshaft timing in order to improve efficiency and reduce emissions across the rpm range.
